Optic Tunnels is a new Swedish provider of data communication and AI services for demanding organizations – services produced on truly dedicated infrastructure, all the way down into the ground. To deliver them, we are building an entirely new, independent fiber backbone network between the Nordic capital regions, with strict requirements for security and performance at every step. Our services are launched step by step as the network grows, for customers along the entire route – not only between the endpoints. The network build-out is well underway, initially focused on Greater Stockholm, the Mälaren Valley, Dalarna and Skåne, and we are now looking for experienced fiber technicians who want to join us on the journey.

The role

As a fiber technician at Optic Tunnels, you will work with fiber installation and high-precision fusion splicing, as well as measurement and documentation. You will work closely with the civil works, follow each route from trench to completed connection, and take part alongside our subcontractors when the fiber cables are installed in the ducts.

The work is largely in the field along our backbone network, but also in our own small data centers along the routes and at end-customer premises. This means flexible, mobile working days with a high degree of responsibility for planning your own work.

A strategic capability we are building in-house

While Optic Tunnels procures most of the network build-out from external contractors, all fiber splicing, measurement and documentation is carried out by our own staff. This is to ensure maximum control and security in the most sensitive parts of the network.

Measurements and documentation of splice quality and the optical properties of the fiber matter more to us than to most. The measurement data is used not only to verify that the fiber and the splice meet specification at the moment of testing, but also as a reference for detecting anomalies and intrusion attempts throughout the fiber's lifetime. This is a central part of our security offering, which is why careful measurement and impeccable documentation are as important as the fiber and the splices themselves.

What we are looking for

• Documented experience as a fiber technician on backbone networks

• A category B driver's license

• The right to work in Sweden

• Good computer skills and experience working with documentation

• Fluent spoken and written English, the language of all our technical documentation. Working knowledge of Swedish is a plus.

You are orderly and meticulous, and you see documentation as a critical part of the work, not an add-on to it. You enjoy planning your own work and taking responsibility for it.

Terms

Location: Stockholm. The work involves travel and work throughout Optic Tunnels' network.

Extent: Full-time

Type of employment: Permanent, following an initial probationary period

Start: By agreement. Positions are filled on a rolling basis.

Working hours: The work is mainly carried out during daytime. Some tasks, such as planned maintenance within scheduled maintenance windows, may be carried out at other times. Around-the-clock on-call duty for repairing infrequent network faults is included on a rotating schedule, with compensation under the applicable agreement.

Applications and questions

Send a description of yourself and your experience as a fiber technician – the types of networks and projects you have worked on, and your responsibilities in them – together with details of your references, to jobs@optictunnels.com. We will only contact your references once we have agreed with you to do so. Questions about the position are welcome at the same address. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
