Are you a senior engineer who enjoys building great frontend experiences, improving performance, and shaping the tools and frameworks that help other developers succeed? Do you want to combine hands-on development with technical leadership and explore how AI can make software development more efficient?

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer with a strong frontend focus to help develop shared component libraries, microfrontend infrastructure, and AI-powered tools in a modern product environment. Our client is a global tech company with their HQ is Stockholm. About the position You will join a team responsible for a shared component library, microfrontend (MFE) infrastructure, and navigation components used across multiple products. The team also owns parts of the backend and configuration services for a developer platform.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will take ownership of the component library and MFE infrastructure, ensuring they remain scalable, reliable, performant, and easy for other teams to use. You will also drive AI initiatives that improve frontend development workflows, from code generation to design-to-code solutions. The role is primarily focused on frontend development using React and TypeScript, with some backend development in Node.js and Java. Following an initial onboarding period of 1–2 months with the current technical lead, you will step into a technical leadership role during their parental leave. This will involve guiding technical decisions, coordinating planning, mentoring engineers, and helping the team maintain momentum. The position follows a hybrid working model, with an expectation of spending approximately one day per week at the Stockholm office. An on-call rotation may also be part of the role. What You'll Do

  • Own the component library: Develop new components, improve styling, address bugs, and ensure accessibility and consistency across products.
  • Drive AI-powered development: Build tools and workflows, such as MCP servers, code generation, and design-to-code solutions, that make the component library easier for engineers and designers to use.
  • Develop the microfrontend infrastructure: Maintain and improve the MFE framework, support teams adopting microfrontends, and help establish best practices.
  • Improve performance: Identify bottlenecks and deliver measurable performance improvements across products.
  • Provide technical leadership: Take ownership of technical direction and planning during the technical lead's leave.
  • Turn ambiguity into action: Translate loosely defined requests into clear plans, practical solutions, and well-informed technical decisions.
  • Balance complexity and value: Challenge unnecessary complexity and suggest simpler alternatives when the expected value does not justify the cost.
  • Strengthen reliability: Improve monitoring, logging, and bug reporting to help teams identify and resolve issues more effectively.
  • Support the growth of others: Contribute through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with React, including hooks, state management, and component design.
  • Experience building or maintaining a design system or shared component library, including accessibility (a11y).
  • Solid knowledge of TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and web performance optimization.
  • Experience with Docker and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with Git, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Practical experience using AI tools in software development.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting other engineers.
  • The ability to design and deliver features end-to-end, explaining technical decisions and trade-offs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with microfrontend architectures, such as Module Federation.
  • Experience with Java, particularly Spring or Spring Boot.
  • Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Amazon SQS.
  • Good knowledge of SQL databases, such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Knowledge of secure software development practices.

Why Join? This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the foundations of a growing product ecosystem. You'll work across shared frontend architecture, developer experience, performance optimization, and AI-driven innovation, while stepping into a technical leadership role. Practical details Start: November Extent: initially 10 months Location: Stockholm, hybrid set up. We are only able to process applications sent through our ATS. Please note that we can’t keep track of CVs or similar documents sent via email. Does the position sound interesting? We at Needo are looking forward hearing from you.
